Cem1994 Claims Second SCOOP Title, Takes Down Super Tuesday SE

The 2018 Spring Championship of Online Poker is in full swing on PokerStars and multiple players have already shipped cashes from the popular online poker festival. Dutch player Cem1994 was the latest such player, knocking off a field of 1,149 entries in the SCOOP-11-H $1,050 NLHE Super Tuesday Special Edition for $183,292.52 in prize money and his second-ever SCOOP title.

The tournament kicked off on Tuesday but took two days of play to be completed. The Super Tuesday event is usually a very popular one. However, the opening Super Tuesday Special Edition within the 2018 SCOOP turned out to be utter success. As mentioned above, 1,149 entries lined up to crash the $1 million guarantee. Many of them were former SCOOP champions, there were also players who were vying to complete the Triple COOP crown, having previously won WCOOP and TCOOP events. Jonathan “MONSTER_DONG” Karamalikis and Toby “810ofclubs” Lewis were among them.

The top 143 runners received a share of the event’s prize pool. The money bubble burst on Day 1 and by the end of that day, there were just 76 players left to contend for the title.

The Day 2 field was full of skill and talent as multiple former SCOOP champions returned in a bid to claim another title, Cem1994 being among them. There were also popular live poker pros who were looking to enrich their tournament portfolios with online titles. Nick “FU_15” Maimone, a former PCA High Roller champion, and two-time WPT Main Tour winner Aaron “aaronmermel” Mermelstein were two such contenders.

Final Table and Heads-Up

Despite the plethora of former SCOOP champions, Cem1994 was the only such former champion among the final tablists. It is also important to note that the player entered that final stage of play as the chip leader with 23,246,522 in chips.

Despedespi33 from the UK survived through the final table to eventually become Cem1994’s heads-up opponent. The two-handed match began with Cem1994 being well ahead of despedespi33 with 97,749,900 to the latter’s stack of 17,150,100.

Although despedespi33 was at great disadvantage, the player showed that he was not ready to let go of the title without a good fight. It actually took 40 hands before he finally surrendered. On what turned out to be the final hand in play, despedespi33’s [4h][2s] clashed into Cem1994’s [8s][5c]. The two players went all in after the [As][8h][7c] flop was dealt. The [5h] arrived on the turn and the [4s] landed on the river to bust despedespi33 in second place and put an end to the tournament.

It should be noted that the player has quite some experience in SCOOP events. He finished third in a SCOOP tournament last year. He clearly improved that third-place finish this time around, adding a $133,081.31 cash to his online poker earnings for becoming the Super Tuesday Special Edition runner-up.
