The Palazzo Celebrates Tenth Anniversary amid Casino Floor Renovation

The Palazzo, one of the brightest stars in the constellation of Las Vegas Strip casinos, celebrated its tenth anniversary this past Wednesday. It was on January 17, 2008 when the hotel and casino resort held its grand opening.

The Palazzo is part of a larger hotel, casino, and convention complex, together with the adjoining The Venetian and the nearby Sands Convention Center. All three properties are owned and operated by casino giant Las Vegas Sands.

Speaking of giants, The Palazzo is quite a colossus itself. With its 195.7 meters, The Palazzo is the tallest completed building not just in Las Vegas but also across the state of Nevada. It is also the second-largest building in the Western Hemisphere.

Las Vegas Sands announced last year that it would spend around $15 million into the renovation of the resort’s casino floor. Renovation work at the gambling facility is due to be completed by mid-2018. The Palazzo’s purely gaming portion currently occupies around 60,000 feet of space. The casino at the popular resort offers around 140 table games, with 20 of those being featured in a special high-limit play salon.

The casino part of the floor also has 1,038 slot machines, with those being installed across the space. The planned renovation includes replacement of the existing tables and slot machines with new ones.

Aside from the purely gaming portion of The Palazzo’s casino floor, Las Vegas Sands announced plans to upgrade surrounding facilities, as well. The operator will pour around $1,383,000 into the 1,100-square-foot The Corner Bar. Another $1,485,000 will be spent on the renovation of another bar located on the property’s casino floor.

Sustainability at the Core

Tim Brown, Corporate Development Senior Program Manager at The Palazzo, has recently revealed in a blog post that Las Vegas Sands has opted for fully reusable and recyclable materials for the casino’s renovation.

The major casino company has recruited Michigan-headquartered temporary construction specialist Envy Modular Wall Systems, Inc. to install its temporary walls at The Palazzo’s casino floor. Generally speaking, walls of this kind aim to reduce debris during construction work. As a result, they help in improving the quality of air as they do not produce as much construction waste and airborne pollutants as drywall installation and sanding do.

Mr. Brown said in his blog post that sustainability has become a core part of his department’s work. The official further noted that by opting for temporary walls they aimed to reduce operating and maintenance costs for their buildings, while ensuring that these last longer, and to improve the quality of air visitors and employees breathe while they are at the premises.

As part of its renovation and in addition to the wall replacement, The Palazzo will also have its carpeting and ceiling replaced and upgraded. As mentioned above, renovation work is expected to be completed by June 2018.
